Saturday Scenes

You are my Sunshine

It’s another great set of Saturday Scenes! I want a SatScene map, showing all the locations as we move through the timezones starting off in Australia and ending up in Hawaii. I don’t suppose anyone knows anyone knows anyone in Tonga who could add a photo? :D

Regardless of location and season, it seems to me that it was sunny for everyone who submitted a photograph last Saturday.

I think I’ll start posting that as another little-known benefit of taking part – SatSceners get more sun than the average person!

Don’t believe me? Take a look:

If you want sunshine too, you should make a point of following each of our talented submitters on twitter:

On This Day…

The 18th of April may not sound like an exciting day but a little bit of research shows that it is a day when seriously important things happen!

  • 1025: Boleslaw Chrobry is crowned in Gniezno, becoming the first King of Poland
  • 1480: Lucrezia Borgia, Duchess of Ferrara, was born
  • 1775: Paul Revere begins his legendary midnight ride to warn his compatriots that British troops were approaching
  • 1783: Fighting ceases in the American Revolution, eight years to the day since it began.
  • 1881: Billy the Kid escapes from the Lincoln County jail in Mesilla, New Mexico.
  • 1906: An earthquake, followed by fire, destroys most of San Francisco, killing 3000 people
  • 1915: French pilot Roland Garros is shot down and glides to a landing on the German side of the lines during World War I.
  • 1949: Eire formally withdraws from the British Commonwealth and becomes the Republic of Ireland.
  • 1956: Grace Kelly married Prince Rainier of Monaco.
  • 1968: London Bridge was sold to an American who thought he was buying Tower Bridge.
  • 1977: @vaxanta was born
  • 1980: The southern African nation of Rhodesia is renamed Zimbabwe after it is granted black majority rule.
  • 1982: Queen Elizabeth II signs the Constitution Act of 1982, which replaces the British North America Act of 1867 as Canada’s Constitution.
  • 2009: Excellent photographs taken by people all over the world for SatScenes!

Seriously, this is just such a fun set of photos, I think you should click through on every single one!

Serious on a Saturday

April without rain is like a SatScenes without nagging. Last weekend was very quiet but it gives us a chance to focus on the hardcore – the dedicated – the serious submitters.

The resulting photograph collection from last Saturday is certainly eclectic – I think it is actually one of our most interesting sets. It also proves that SatSceners are pretty serious about their leisure time.

Make sure to say hello to the submitters:

We want to see your Saturday Scenes. All you have to do is follow this quick list:

  1. Take a photograph on a Saturday
  2. Upload the photograph
  3. Send a tweet to @SatScenes with the url

You can put the photograph anywhere you want. We’ll host a local thumbnail which links to your original picture.

That’s it! So why haven’t you done a Saturday scene yet?

Just Another Day

The 4th of April was the 94th day of 2009. There are 271 days remaining until the end of the year. That makes for 38 Saturday Scene posts with images from all around the world like this one!

This week was somewhat quieter but we still have scenes from England, Spain, Austria, the Netherlands, Israel, the U.S., Australia and Switzerland. Not a bad haul!

Make sure to pop by and say hello to our wonderful contributors!

Make sure to send a photograph next week. It’s easy! Just take a photo on Saturday, tweet the url to @satscenes and you’ll be included in the next collection.

Note: if you have protected your updates, please DM your url to SatScenes to make sure it gets included!

So who’s counting?

If you were watching twitter this evening, you would have seen a conversation something like this:

SatScenesSatScenes
That’s so funny. I think we have exactly 27 satscenes!

drewbenndrewbenn
Hurrah for 3^3 SatScenes this week!

Lisa turquoise
@SatScenes so sorry to spoil your count (or am I too late?) :( http://www.flickr.com/photo…

SatScenesSatScenes
@turquoise Hurray, that’s 28 photos on the 28th. Adding you in quick :)

SatScenesSatScenes
oh wait. Or maybe I just can’t count.

SatScenesSatScenes
I skipped 8 and 11 – we actually have 26. D’oh!

Lisa turquoise
@SatScenes LOL. Have a drink and try again ;)

And that’s why I’m sipping white wine instead of writing a witty intro!

Meanwhile, we had twentysix great Saturday scenes on March the 28th which is the most we’ve ever had! And wow, people started talking about food and look at some of the nice dishes that turned up. If every person who did a Saturday Scene brought me a meal, I’d be well-fed for almost a month! *drool*

OK, OK, on to the photos:
